My mouth waters just thinking about this milkshake!!! Oh, and before I forget, it’s also fabulous as a smoothie!!! I know, most people scrunch up their nose at the thought of putting balsamic vinegar on fruit but it is BERRY delicious! Sometimes I just crack myself up!
First you need to prepare the strawberries. Use about a half cup of strawberries. Remove the cute little green caps and cut them in half, if they are super big berries, quarter them. Sprinkle with about 1 T of sugar or less; if you are using a sugar substitute you may need even less. If you are fortunate to have really yummy berries you wont need sugar at all!
Here’s the tricky part…..the Balsami Vinegar. No it’s not really tricky, I was just teasing. Drizzle about a 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of the balsamic vinegar over the berries and sugar, toss until well blended. The ice cream sort of mellows out the taste so those of us that love balsamic on fruit might desire 1 tsp. You decide, its your drink 🙂 Let the berries sit for at least an hour. I have already used berries that have been lightly sugared and in the fridge for a day, if you do this, you need to be careful of how much juice the berries produce. You may need to add the juice separately to make sure the shake isn’t too liquidy.
1 cup vanilla ice cream OR frozen yogurt
1/4 cup milk
**If making a smoothie, use about 1/2 cup frozen berries, 1 cup yogurt, sugar to taste, 1/2 tsp balsamic vinegar (more if you like), and enough milk to just smooth it out a little.
When you are ready to make the shake (there I go cracking myself up again), add all the ingredients to your blender/smoothie maker and turn it on! Make sure you put the lid on first.
Keep an eye on the thickness, you can add a little more milk if you like, or more of the balsamic berry juice (I drooled when I typed that). When you have reached your desired thickness, pour it in a plain glass or a fancy glass and drink up.
Hope you enjoy!!! Oh yea, don’t forget to try it as a yogurt smoothie too!
